High School Teacher in Doral Arrested for Sexual Relationship with 17-Year-Old Student

The arrest of a teacher from JC Bermúdez Public High School in Doral, Florida, has sent shockwaves through the educational community. On Thursday, May 1, 28-year-old science teacher Edian Villar was taken into custody after being caught in the act of engaging in "illegal sexual activity" with a 17-year-old student inside his classroom at around 3:30 pm.

According to a police report obtained by Local 10 News, a colleague of Villar entered his classroom and discovered him "standing behind the victim with his pants around his ankles," while she was bent over a desk, as detailed in the Miami-Dade School Police arrest report. The witnessing teacher immediately reported the incident to the school principal, who escorted Villar to the administrative office as law enforcement was called.

Victim’s Account

In the presence of her mother, the teenager admitted that encounters with Villar had occurred repeatedly throughout the school year. She explained that their relationship initially began as a standard teacher-student interaction but evolved when the teacher started giving her "special attention" and even involved her in various clubs and extracurricular activities at the school. As reported by Univision, the minor disclosed that they engaged in sexual activities "two or three times a week for a month."

Legal Charges and Proceedings

After being read his Miranda rights, Villar requested legal representation and was initially taken to the Miami-Dade Schools Police Headquarters, and subsequently to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK). His inmate record lists eight charges, including illegal sexual activity with a minor, child abuse without causing serious bodily harm, offenses against students by an authority figure, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His bail was set at $49,500.

Community Reaction

Students at JC Bermúdez voiced their shock and concern following the revelation of the case. "I never saw anything happen. I just know he was a science teacher," remarked Matthew Hernández, a junior at the school. An Infobae article highlighted that prior to this incident, Villar had been awarded "Rookie Teacher of the Year" for his contributions to the educational environment and his enthusiasm in the classroom.

In an official statement, Miami-Dade County Public Schools expressed being "disturbed" by the allegations against the teacher, emphasizing that upon learning of the alleged behavior, the School Police promptly launched an investigation and proceeded with the arrest.
