Jorge Losada, Esteemed Cuban Actor, Urgently Needs Blood Donation in Havana Hospital

Renowned Cuban actor Jorge Losada, currently hospitalized at the Manuel Fajardo University Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana, is in dire need of a blood donation. According to a Facebook post by Luis Lacosta, art director at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and a close friend of Losada, the 91-year-old actor requires A Positive blood. Lacosta emphasized the urgency by writing, "A lot of A Positive blood is needed," in capital letters.

Losada has faced numerous health challenges in recent years. Back in April 2024, he was admitted to the same hospital due to complications from a hip prosthesis. The actor was suffering from severe pain, and it was discovered that the prosthesis, which had been implanted years prior, had become dislodged. After his release, it emerged that he needed a wheelchair for mobility. However, unable to afford one, he turned to the Cuban public on social media for support after receiving no assistance from government institutions.

As early as February 2021, Losada underwent surgery that left him with significant anemia. Given the severe medicine shortages in Cuba, his friend Lacosta took to the Internet to request medications. Many people quickly offered their support, suggesting various ways to ensure Losada received the necessary treatments promptly.

The celebrated actor, known for his work in film, theater, and television, eventually recovered and even participated in the 2023 Cuban telenovela "Renacer," an experience he described as "unique." In an interview with fellow actor Ulises González for Cubaactores, Losada humorously remarked, "Because I'm a gossip in the show, although I'm not in real life, but in the telenovela, I talk badly about everyone, and I don't even know why." He added, "And perhaps it might be my last appearance, giving off that bad... image," in a touching video clip.
