Trump Expels Over 65,000 Undocumented Immigrants in Initial 100 Days of Second Term

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 by Oscar Guevara

In the initial 100 days of his second term, President Donald Trump escalated his immigration crackdown, resulting in the deportation of 65,682 undocumented immigrants, according to data released by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE reported that out of more than 66,000 arrests, 75% involved immigrants with criminal records, including 2,288 alleged gang members from groups like Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and Barrio 18. Additionally, 1,329 individuals faced charges or convictions for sex crimes, and 498 for homicide.

This surge has been attributed to the reactivation of the 287(g) program, which enables local police forces to participate in immigration enforcement operations. Since January 20, 444 new cooperation agreements have been established across the country.

Despite the administration's tough rhetoric, the current deportation numbers are not significantly higher compared to those during Biden's presidency, at least in the early months. For example, in February, Trump deported 37,660 individuals, whereas Biden averaged 57,000 deportations per month in his final year in office.

Furthermore, as reported by The New York Times, from January to March 2025, Trump's administration conducted fewer deportation flights to Guatemala and Colombia compared to Biden's last months. Guatemala received 60 flights under Trump, versus 65 under Biden, while Colombia saw a reduction from 20 to just 16 flights.

President Trump has stated his goal to deport up to 11 million individuals, but with the current pace and resources, experts and human rights organizations agree that this promise is unlikely to be fulfilled.

Colorado Nightclub Raid Leads to Over 100 Arrests

Recently, a joint federal operation, following a months-long investigation, resulted in the arrest of over 100 undocumented immigrants at an illegal nightclub in Colorado. The nightclub, which operated outside permitted hours, was guarded by active-duty U.S. Army personnel working as security staff. The venue had also become a hub for drug trafficking, violent criminals, and prostitution.

According to authorities, the military personnel involved are now under the custody of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division (CID), while the detained immigrants remain in immigration custody. During the operation, federal agents seized numerous firearms and significant quantities of illegal drugs.

Trump Signs Immigration Orders Approaching 100-Day Milestone

As President Trump nears his 100-day mark, he signed an executive order on Monday aimed at cracking down on "sanctuary jurisdictions," or regions that restrict cooperation with federal immigration law enforcement, as reported by CNN. The order mandates the creation of a list by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security identifying these jurisdictions, which could face the loss of certain federal funds and legal actions unless they comply with law enforcement efforts.
