The Cuban reggaeton star, Chocolate MC, found himself in the spotlight again, delivering a spectacle more akin to a comedy show during his court appearance in Miami-Dade on Monday. This followed his arrest at a Coral Gables hotel on Sunday. Rather than appearing grave or anxious, the artist took on a casual and even mocking demeanor in front of Judge Mindy Glazer, using colloquial expressions and gestures that left onlookers both surprised and amused, all of which was captured on video.
When Judge Glazer informed him of a restraining order from the hotel where he was detained, Chocolate MC reacted as if it were a casual street conversation rather than a formal judicial procedure. "Why, boss lady? I'm not a criminal," he questioned.
At one point, the musician attempted to share his side of the story, emphasizing that he hadn't committed any serious crimes. "I was in my room and left my room and hid in another one, how is that trespassing?" he incredulously asked, gesturing broadly as he spoke, disregarding the formal setting.
Beyond downplaying his arrest, Chocolate MC courted further surprise with explicit comments about substances found at the scene. "Why do they mention crack and not the pound of marijuana that was in the room? There was plenty of marijuana and just a tiny piece of crack," he remarked, measuring the "tiny piece" with his fingers, unconcerned that everything was being recorded.
When warned by Judge Glazer that the session was being recorded, Chocolate nonchalantly responded, "Let it be recorded, it doesn't matter. The most important thing is to talk to Ovi so Ovi can talk to his boss and get me out of here."
The judge eventually set a bail amounting to over $7,000, but Chocolate seemed unfazed. "Just let me go to sleep. I'm tired and hungover, please take me to the cell," he pleaded.
The reggaeton artist was apprehended last Sunday at the Hotel Aloft Coral Gables after being on the run for several days. Yosvanis Arismín Sierra Hernández, faces charges of hotel room burglary, possession of controlled substances (crack), criminal mischief, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia with intent to use, as well as written threats of murder and bodily harm, illegal use of a communication device, and an additional charge of assault outside the county.
Following his arrest, it emerged from police reports that the artist allegedly made public threats via social media against Damián Valdéz-Galloso, the man accused of murdering fellow reggaeton artist El Taiger. Chocolate reportedly posted multiple times on Instagram and YouTube, offering $20,000 to anyone who would eliminate Valdéz-Galloso. In one of these posts, he wrote, "If the police don't kill you, we will," clearly threatening death.
