Following a recent vehicular accident in the province of Granma, seven individuals remain hospitalized. The incident was caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol, though none of the injured are currently facing life-threatening conditions.

Yudelkis Ortiz Barceló, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Granma, shared on Facebook that since the accident's occurrence, the health system has been fully engaged in providing necessary medical attention to the victims, who are receiving prompt care.

The accident, which had the potential to end in tragedy, was the result of reckless driving by a person not residing in Granma. According to Ortiz, the driver was operating the vehicle while intoxicated at the time of the crash.

"We will continue to demand discipline, responsibility, humanity, and sound judgment from those who, without any right, endanger the lives of others and themselves," Ortiz emphasized in her post, highlighting the severity of the irresponsible behavior that led to the accident.

Initial reports indicated that at least three individuals were injured in a mass accident on Saturday in the Los Guayitos neighborhood, located in the Río Cauto municipality of Granma, as reported by the local government on its Facebook page.

The crash occurred in the afternoon on the Bayamo - Las Tunas road when a tractor-trailer from Camagüey, loaded with raw materials and headed to Manzanillo, lost control upon returning. The vehicle was carrying 11 people, including three minors, noted the official statement.

At the time, it was reported that one person sustained a skull fracture, another suffered a cervical injury, and a third endured a hip fracture, the latter being the driver of the vehicle.

Initially, the injured were taken to the Ernesto Guevara de la Serna Polyclinic in Vado del Yeso via the emergency medical service (SIUM) of Granma and later transferred to the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital in Bayamo for specialized attention.

According to the preliminary technical review, the accident was attributed to the vehicle losing direction under rainy conditions, which affected the trailer's control on the wet asphalt, as mentioned by the government account. However, on Sunday, the provincial leader clarified that the driver was drunk at the time of the incident.
