The man responsible for the tragic death of a Cuban mother this past Friday in the Bartolomé Masó municipality of Granma province was discovered deceased on Sunday, as reported on social media. According to Facebook pages La Tijera and activist Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez, the individual who ended the life of Daimi Tamayo Milán allegedly took his own life by poisoning.

Rodríguez expressed, "Yordan chose to end his life, allegedly through poisoning, opting to escape earthly punishment and face divine justice. Our condolences go out to the families of the little girl from both sides. Ultimately, it is the child who, in just three days, has been left without both mother and father."

Before this tragic event, the victim had been threatened with death by her ex-husband, Yordan, with whom she shared a 10-year-old daughter. On Friday morning, the attacker confronted Tamayo at her home and violently ended her life. After committing the crime, Yordan went into hiding, avoiding capture by authorities. The family ensured the child's safety, as the perpetrator had also threatened her life.

The incident sparked outrage among hundreds of citizens who voiced their anger at the actions of the man who left a young girl orphaned. "Even poisoned, he doesn't pay for what he did. No one has the right to take another's life. What do these people think... that they can destroy the well-being of defenseless and vulnerable individuals, leaving devastated families and children without mothers, causing waves of terror... How long will this continue?" a Cuban woman lamented.

Another individual commented, "Poor girl, marked with a tragic story for life and without parental support during her happiest and saddest moments. May God bless that innocent being who didn't deserve what happened and guide her to become a great person despite her painful tragedy."

Government's Silence on Gender Violence Statistics

Despite the rise in femicides across Cuba, the communist regime has declared it will not disclose statistics on gender-based violence. An article in the state-run newspaper Granma, authored by Ana Hernández, Chief Prosecutor of the Information and Analysis Directorate, and Anneliesse Toranzo, Prosecutor of the Criminal Processes Directorate, stated that authorities are working on a computerized and interoperable administrative registry. However, it will not be publicly accessible and will track the violent deaths of women and girls due to gender-based reasons.

Just days ago, independent Cuban platforms confirmed the murder of a woman by her partner in the province of Sancti Spíritus, bringing the reported femicide count in Cuba to ten in 2025. Yunisleidy (Yuni) López Milián, aged 40, was killed by her partner on March 27 in her home in the town of Guayos, Cabaiguán municipality, as reported by the Gender Observatory of the magazine Alas Tensas (OGAT) and Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba (YSTCC).
