A tragic road accident on Thursday in Santiago de Cuba resulted in the deaths of two individuals who were on a motorcycle. The incident occurred around midday at El Cruce de Lajas on the Central Highway connecting Contramaestre and Palma Soriano, when a rented Yutong bus collided with the motorcycle.

Preliminary reports from the Facebook group "Accidentes Buses & Camiones" indicate that both motorcycle occupants lost their lives—one at the scene and the other at the hospital. They were reportedly residents of El Cruce de Lajas and the Laguna Blanca community, as mentioned by those close to the families.

"My condolences to friends and family," stated emergency collaborator Michel Ibarra Martínez, who shared images and details of the accident. As of now, the identities of the victims have not been released, nor has there been any official information on the accident's causes. It is also unclear whether the bus driver sustained any injuries.

The road between Contramaestre and Palma Soriano is among the most heavily traveled in the province and has been the site of numerous serious accidents in recent years, largely due to the road's poor condition and heavy vehicle traffic.
