Political prisoner and July 11 (11J) protester, Carlos Michael Morales Rodríguez, has publicly decried the situation through social media, shedding light on a recent violent incident involving Juan Alberto de la Nuez Ramírez, a dissident residing in the Aguada de Pasajeros municipality. Despite the severity of the attack, the perpetrators have been set free by the police.
Morales Rodríguez, utilizing his Facebook profile to amplify the issue, stated that De la Nuez Ramírez was able to identify his assailants and duly informed the authorities. However, the state’s response has been one of silence and neglect. "Those who attacked him and nearly took his life roam the streets of Aguada de Pasajeros with impunity," Morales Rodríguez emphasized.
The situation grows increasingly alarming with revelations that the file containing statements pertinent to the case has mysteriously "disappeared," as reported by De la Nuez Ramírez's lawyer. Morales Rodríguez interprets this disappearance as indicative of the State Security's involvement in the assassination attempt, highlighting the systematic use of repression and impunity as political control mechanisms in Cuba.
"Down with #repression and #StateTerrorism," Morales Rodríguez concluded in his post, urging for the denunciation and visibility of the ongoing human rights violations faced by dissidents on the island.
The attack on De la Nuez Ramírez occurred on Saturday, April 5, carried out by five armed individuals wielding machetes, knives, and sticks. The assault left him with severe injuries, including fractures in his arms and legs, and at least ten stab wounds across his body. According to accounts shared on social media by his brother, Bárbaro de la Nuez, and Morales Rodríguez, one of the attackers remains at large.
