A recent court decision in the United States has provided a sense of relief and hope to thousands of Cuban migrants who are beneficiaries of humanitarian parole. This comes after weeks of anxiety over the potential loss of critical immigration benefits. The ruling effectively blocks a Trump administration measure that sought to eliminate the I-94 form and suspend Social Security numbers for these immigrants.

Federal Judge Indira Talwani in Boston determined that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) erred in its attempt to revoke benefits previously granted to individuals who entered the country legally with official authorization. Immigration attorney Jesús Novo, interviewed by journalist Mario J. Pentón, confirmed that many migrants are already receiving positive responses from USCIS. "Several individuals have contacted me to confirm they are having their I-94 reinstated," Pentón reported.

The ruling also mandates the correction of errors such as the inclusion of parolees on ICE lists of deceased persons, which had led to the automatic suspension of their Social Security numbers. "It was an attempt to cut benefits to certain immigrants, but it was absurd and everyone knew it wouldn't stand," said attorney Novo.

This decision marks a temporary victory for over 531,000 individuals who legally entered the United States between January 2023 and December 2024 under the CHNV program (Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela). Of these, more than 110,000 are Cubans. The attempt to nullify benefits had stirred fear and outrage within the migrant community, particularly among those relying on the program as a legal and safe pathway to start a new life.

Despite the positive news, the legal battle is far from over. The federal government has appealed Judge Talwani's ruling, which could reignite the risk if a higher court overturns the decision. Yet, there has been an outpouring of reactions on social media, with migrants and their families expressing joy and hope:

"Oh my God, help immigrants with the CBP appointment, you who can do everything. Amen," one user wrote.

"I'm so happy, and I don't have family in that situation, but as a Cuban, I know the sacrifices many have made who have left," commented another.

"God help the Cubans with I-220A so they can legalize their status," implored Maritza Cuellar, referencing another vulnerable group.

As thousands of Cubans celebrate this judicial turn, the fight for a secure and permanent immigration status in the U.S. continues. The decision represents a partial victory but also serves as a call for legal vigilance and collective organization.
