A Cuban national, Ángel Seijo Rojas, originally from the Vázquez neighborhood in Camagüey, tragically lost his life on Monday after being struck by a car on Kwattaweg road in Suriname. Eyewitnesses and social media reports indicate that the accident occurred when a Toyota vehicle hit Seijo and then attempted to flee the scene.

Fortunately, another driver who witnessed the incident pursued the fleeing vehicle and forced the driver to return to the scene of the crime. Despite being described as aggressive, the suspect attempted to escape once more. However, quick action by bystanders and video recordings led to the Surinamese police apprehending him.

The news spread rapidly across groups like "Latinos in Suriname" and was shared by Facebook users, along with images of the deceased's identity card. Urgent assistance was sought to contact his relatives in Cuba. Soon after, Cuban Lázaro Valdivia Mayoral, a member of the group "Ciego de Ávila de todo un poco," confirmed Seijo's identity and expressed gratitude to those who helped.

"Thank you to everyone who helped and collaborated. Mr. Ángel Seijo Rojas was from the Vázquez neighborhood, Camagüey. He was a Christian and passed away instantly due to a car hitting him. Rest in peace," he stated. It is believed that Seijo's wife and young son remain in Cuba, according to family and neighbors.

The community has shown empathy, with several people close to the family, including neighbors, doing their best to provide support during this difficult time. This tragic incident adds to a series of fatal accidents involving Cuban citizens in Suriname.

In February of last year, a Cuban named Emir Castro González, aged 43, died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a car in Paramaribo. Castro, who hailed from Cárdenas, Matanzas, and was a father of two, was riding on Dr. Sophie Redmond Avenue in front of a city shopping center when the collision occurred. Police reports cited by the press indicated that the motorcyclist failed to yield the right of way and collided with a van crossing the road.

Days later, Gilberto José Mora Ávila, 29, was killed in the same city when his motorcycle collided with the left door of a car.
