These events were part of the "50501" movement, which stands for "50 protests, 50 states, one movement." In Washington, D.C., a substantial crowd gathered outside the White House, holding signs with messages like "The people will defeat Trump" and "People power will overcome Trump's cruelty." The demonstrations also occurred near the residence of Vice President J. D. Vance, who is currently in Rome, while Trump spent his time at his golf club in Virginia.

The protests coincided with the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War, with organizers drawing symbolic parallels between the historic fight for freedom and today's defense of democracy.

Reports from Efe highlighted one of the movement's main grievances: the role of billionaire Elon Musk in the government. Musk's influence has reportedly led to federal cuts resulting in the closure of institutions and the dismissal of hundreds of workers. A sign reading "Fuck Musk" was prominently displayed in Manhattan to express this sentiment.

Opposition to Immigration Policies

A major focus of the protests was opposition to the government's immigration policies, particularly following a recent Supreme Court decision to halt deportations ordered by Trump under a 1798 law concerning "alien enemies."

Outside the New York Public Library, close to Trump Tower, protesters chanted "Immigrants are welcome here!" in a demonstration rich with symbolism. Signs bearing the name Kilmar Abrego, a Salvadoran wrongfully deported and held in El Salvador's largest maximum-security prison, were visible among the crowd.

Criticism of Government and the Role of Elon Musk

There were also significant criticisms of the controversial Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), which Trump has proposed as a model for his penitentiary policy. Many placards openly denounced it as "a concentration camp."

The protests included community activities like food distribution, workshops, and vigils, showcasing a comprehensive approach to civic resistance. These demonstrations are part of the "Hands Off" movement, which emerged in response to Trump's policies during his second term, particularly those involving cuts to social programs and Musk's influence in the government.

On April 5, protests were organized in all 50 states, supported by more than 150 groups, including civil rights organizations, labor unions, and LGBTQ+ advocates.
