In a controversial move, the Cuban regime has publicly supported Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, the first secretary of the Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba, after receiving criticism from reporter Yosmany Mayeta Labrada. Mayeta has highlighted her active involvement in suppressing the populace. An official profile, "Un simple Santiaguero," labeled Mayeta’s memes and posts as "symbolic violence" and "harassment," claiming Johnson is "not obligated to be pretty, silent, or perfect." Ironically, this language itself dips into the symbolic violence it aims to denounce. "A woman in the public sphere is not required to be pretty, silent, or perfect. She has the right to make mistakes, make decisions, lead, and also be criticized," the post stated.

Meanwhile, official media outlets in Santiago praised Johnson's role, asserting she is fighting for the improvement of a community that appreciates her efforts amidst challenging circumstances. These accounts also encouraged people to denounce criticisms against her. However, these same profiles have paradoxically targeted Mayeta, making derogatory comments about his physical traits.

In response to the attacks, Mayeta pointed out that Johnson herself has insulted him during Communist Party meetings, referring to him with derogatory terms. "They will have to reassess, as I am always a topic in their meetings," Mayeta added. He claimed that official profiles frequently try to discredit his posts, which he makes openly to highlight issues he believes are just.

Many users online have questioned the hypocrisy of Urrutia's defenders, noting that programs like "Con filo" and the National News have disrespected Cuban activists and opponents. "Where is this same demand for respect when 'El Guerrero Cubano' mocks the sexual orientation of socialism critics or discusses their health status, potentially violating privacy and spreading unsubstantiated claims? In those cases, criticism is absent," remarked one user.

Beatriz Johnson Urrutia has faced criticism for her apparent inaction and reluctance to engage directly with citizens' demands for water, electricity, and food supplies. She has often responded to peaceful protests with repression and police deployments to quell social unrest.
