Motorbike and Horse-Drawn Cart Collision in Holguín Leaves One Injured and Horse Dead

A heart-wrenching and tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning at the entrance of La Pedrona community in Mayarí, Holguín. A motorbike and a horse-drawn cart collided violently on a roadway, resulting in one person injured and the death of the horse.

According to a Facebook post by user Proco Verdecia, the injured motorcyclist, identified only as Ernesto from El Cocal neighborhood, sustained significant injuries. After receiving initial treatment at the local hospital, he was quickly transferred to the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University General Hospital in Holguín due to the severity of his condition.

Those traveling on the cart escaped with either no injuries or only minor ones and did not require urgent medical attention. Tragically, the horse pulling the cart died immediately at the scene.

This incident has reignited discussions about road safety in Cuba’s rural areas, where traditional modes of transportation coexist with modern vehicles. The lack of adequate infrastructure and sufficient signage continues to pose challenges in preventing such collisions. "I don't like to criticize anyone, but the main issue with these accidents is the lack of even a basic light for these types of transport, which is what we have, leading to problems," commented one user under the post.

Meanwhile, Ernesto's family, friends, and neighbors are hoping for his swift recovery. Others mourn the loss of the horse and call for stricter measures to ensure safe coexistence on the roads. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
