María Elvira Salazar Faces Criticism: "They Call Me a Traitor, Yet This is the Job I Work Hardest For and Get Paid the Least"

In response to criticisms she's faced in Miami, particularly after a billboard labeled her a "traitor," Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar has spoken out with determination. "To the people putting up signs calling me a traitor on the Palmetto, I invite them to see if they can do what I'm doing. I'm doing it gladly, even if it's the job where I've worked the hardest and been paid the least," Salazar stated during a recent interview on Al Punto Florida.

Championing Immigrants with I-220A

Salazar has emerged as a prominent advocate in the U.S. Congress for immigrants holding I-220A, a document that provides protection to thousands of Cuban immigrants who have arrived in recent years, yet has led to legal confusion regarding their status. During her remarks, the congresswoman harshly criticized the billboard on the Palmetto Expressway, which was promoted by the Miami-Dade County Democratic Hispanic Caucus and also targets other Republican politicians like Marco Rubio, Mario Díaz-Balart, and Carlos Giménez.

Reaffirming Commitment to Anti-Communism

Undeterred by the criticism, Salazar reiterated her dedication to supporting immigrants who, as she described, "have been bitten by communism" and appreciate the significance of her efforts. She expressed gratitude for the support shown by the I-220A community, which responded by erecting six billboards in favor of her work.

"They know we're the only ones helping them. I'm trying to ensure that the worthless paper given to them by the Biden administration actually serves a purpose, allowing them to receive parole and take advantage of the Cuban Adjustment Act," she stated in a video released on April 15.

Salazar also reaffirmed her vow to continue fighting for the legalization of these immigrants and expressed optimism that a Republican administration would achieve a more robust legal status for them. "I, María Elvira Salazar, remain committed to the I-220A," she concluded.
