Black Beret Commandos and military personnel have reportedly detained several youths suspected of being involved in the murder of Heriberto Sánchez Reyes, a 54-year-old man whose body was discovered earlier this week in an alley in Santiago de Cuba.

The news was shared on social media this Friday by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who detailed—citing neighborhood sources—that for "several consecutive days, Black Beret commandos arrived at Calle 10 in the Reparto Altamira to apprehend youths possibly implicated in the brutal murder."

The journalist also mentioned that "a very young woman" was arrested, who allegedly lured the victim by asking for a ride to the wooded area on the outskirts of the locality where the body was later found.

So far, official state media have not commented on the discovery of the body or confirmed the crime, which adds to other violent incidents reported in Santiago de Cuba this year.

The murder of Heriberto Sánchez reportedly took place last Saturday when, at seven in the morning, the victim went to pick up a scooter that had been purchased the day before by Dr. Yasmani Bueno Rodríguez from a coworker at the Frank País García Polyclinic in the locality of Agüero.

"Accounts say that after the scooter was picked up, it had a flat tire, and Heriberto took it to a repair shop on Calle Rastro, between Martí and Yarayó. After one in the afternoon on Saturday, he went out for a ride and was not seen again until yesterday, when his body was found far from his home," the source detailed.

Yosmany Mayeta confirmed that the body found was that of the man reported missing, but the scooter remains unaccounted for.

The decomposed body was discovered on Monday afternoon in an alley near the so-called "red tanks," between the neighborhoods of Versalles and Altamira. The area was cordoned off by the police for many hours.

The body was partially buried, likely uncovered by animals attracted by the stench. In a subsequent post, Mayeta Labrada urged the authorities of Santiago de Cuba and the forensic department to publicly disclose the identity of the deceased and provide details about the circumstances of his death.
