Aceituna sin hueso

The Cuban group Aceituna sin hueso is led by the vocalist, composer and director Mariela Moreno, and has achieved a musical combination of Caribbean rhythms and Andalusian folkloric music that has put them at the fore of the so-called "new era fusion" of Cuban music.

"Our music has many roots, mainly in Spanish music. Its a mix that covers the entire European continent and much more, because we fuse various folkloric styles," said the singer.

One of the groups promotional singles is called "Sin nueces para el amor," and is the result of the search to and the experiment of uniting Andalusian folkloric and Cuban music in all its various genres, say the musicians.

"Para besar artistas sobran bocas," another song from their first production, "Marginales.com," has an atypical format format, instrumentally speaking, that achieves a rhythmic-harmonic atmosphere sui generis.

"This song is principally an attempt to pay homage to merengue and the well-known bachata singer/songwriter Juan Luis Guerra. To Aceituna sin hueso, its a composition that feels like a party," said Moreno.

The Cuban group has developed intensely since they began in February of 2000 with performances in various venues in their country as well as radio and TV programs in various countries.

Among their plans for 2007 is a Latin American tour to spread the particular style that has already landed them a privileged place among Cuba's critics and public.
