Actress Carrie Fisher died today at Los Angeles hospital where she had been hospitalized four days ago when suffering a heart attack on the plane that transported her to this city from London. Fisher, mostly known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga, was 60 years old.

Family spokesman Simon Halls issued a statement to the media confirming the singer's death. "With deep sadness Billie Lourd [the actress's only daughter] has confirmed that her beloved mother has died at 8:55 this morning, she was loved by the world and we will miss her deeply. Our whole family thanks you for your prayers and good thoughts. "
