Antonio Castro, one of the sons of Fidel Castro, was named global ambassador for the World Confederation of Baseball and Softball, hoping to boost the campaign for both sports can return to the program of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.

"He will have a larger role in Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) because the geopolitical landscape evolves, and will have a seat (non-voting) in the Executive Committee of the WBSC" said in a statement.

The designation of Castro to boost the return of baseball to the Olympics in 2020 takes place after failing to be elected to the Executive Committee of the WBSC, at a meeting in May 2014, where he was president Italian Riccardo Fraccari.

Both sports were eliminated from the Olympic schedule after the Beijing Olympics in 2008. In 2013, failed in his bid to return to the program of the Olympic Games.

However, baseball and softball are currently considered favorites to enter calendar 2020, following the approval of a special resolution that allows organizers Tokyo likely include one or more new sports competence.
