Matanzas players already secured their ticket to the second round in Cuban baseball championship when missing four games in the qualifying stage. The 21-3 beating they received last Sunday against Sancti Spiritus did not influence their position and still managed to be the front runners.

On Monday, Matanzas took the rematch and won 11-0 in seven innings to Sancti Spiritus. Matanzas is leading the list with results 28-14 and is the first insured passing second round.

In the sorting area are Granma (24-14), Artemisa and Industriales (24-18), Holguin and Isla de la Juventud (22-18), Ciego de Ávila (22-19) and Villa Clara (21-20) . The top eight advance to the second phase of the championship.

Defending champion Pinar del Río, improved to 19-19 and is in ninth place, struggling to climb positions and slopes after several suspensions parties.
