Australia beats Hungary at water polo worlds

Associated Press. 2011-07-23 05:10 PM. Australia led by three goals with three minutes left and held on for a 10-9 win over two-time champion Hungary in a women's playoff match at the water polo world championships.
Rowan Webster scored four goals for Australia, which advances to a quarterfinal match Monday against Spain.
The Netherlands beat New Zealand 14-6 Saturday, advancing to the quarterfinals against Greece.
Later Saturday, Russia played Cuba and Spain took on China. The United States, winner of the past two world titles, will play the Russia-Cuba winner in the quarterfinals while Canada will take on the winner of Spain-China.
Spain, Greece, the United States and Canada received byes in the opening playoff round because they won their round-robin groups.
