Venezuela's Chavez: 1st Stage Of Chemotherapy Ended Successfully

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES. CARACAS (Dow Jones)--Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday that he had completed his first stage of chemotherapy and will soon begin a second phase of the treatment to get rid of any malignant cancer cells.

"This battle for life continues," the socialist leader said by telephone from Cuba, where he went to begin treatment last weekend. He spoke during a rally broadcast on state television that was being led by Vice President Elias Jaua.
