Cuban El Floridita Bar-Restaurant Readies for 195 Anniversary

ACN - July 18, 2011. One year away from the date that marks its 195th anniversary the world famous bar-restaurant El Floridita, one of the seven best worldwide according to specialists, readies for the celebrations, that among other activities will highlight its relation with US writer Ernest Hemingway.

The restaurant workers have outlined a series of activities that include to attempt on July 6th 2012 to set a Guinness World Record with the "world's larrgest Daiquiri", a cocktail that distinguishes the place. On that date, 195 years before, the Piña de Plata (the silver pineapple) bar, as it was named, wasfounded in the heart of Havana city at that trime.

The first event to mark the historical date was a contest known as "The Daiquiri King", with the participation of 12 barmen from bars all over the city. Pedro Tejeda Torres, barman at the Bodeguita del Medio won the award with a Tamarind
Daiquiri.

The restaurant manager Andres Arencibia announced that they will present workers that have laboured for over years with awards, and also they will meet with prominent Cuban barmen.

He also said that the restoration works El Floridita has undergone will be finished by November this year. They will also apply for the Five Forks category that international organizations award restaurants with high quality services.

This bar-restaurant, known as the Daiquiri cradle, was founded on July 6th 1817. Renown personalities from all over the world have visited it, such as French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre, American actors Spencer Tracy, Ava Gardner, Errol Flynn, Jack Nicholson, Matt Dillon and Danny Glover, et al.

In 1992 the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) presented El Floridita with the International Star Diamond Award.
