HAVANA (AP) — A Cuban historian who came under fire for an unusually frank article denouncing high-level corruption says an order expelling him from the Communist Party has been overturned.

Esteban Morales writes on his personal website that a party appeals commission called him in last week to inform him of the decision.

He said in a post dated Thursday the commission returned his membership card and he is once again a full member.

Morales is known for his work on topics including racism and U.S. relations.

In April 2010, he published the article that got him in trouble. Morales wrote that corruption among some top officials was a greater threat to Cuba's communist system than the small, fractured dissident community.
