The renowned actress and singer, born in Havana, began her prolific career in the 1930s when she was hired by Peliculas Cubanas S.A. to participate in the 1938 film ‘Romance del Palmar’ by Ramon Peon Garcia. In the following years, she participated in ‘Mi tia de America’, ‘Estampas habaneras’ and Cancionero cubano.’

She also excelled in her work in radio and television where she starred in many programs such as ‘San Nicolas del Peladero’, where she played one of the leading roles for almost 24 years.

Also remarkable was her lyrical work accompanying Maestro Ernesto Lecuona on many occasions.

In the stage she was also outstanding and she starred in pieces such as ‘Cecilia Valdes’, ‘La verbena de la paloma’, and ‘Una casa colonial.’

Maria de los Angeles Santana received the National Theater Award in 2001 and the National Television Award in 2003.(ACN)
