Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) president Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, and Boris Gryzlov, Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation signed the document.

Alarcon expressed satisfaction with the agreement, and noted that between the two entities of government have kept relations of friendship and mutual support throughout the years.

He expressed confidence that these “will be further strengthened with the signing of the agreement.”

Alarcon described the ties between Cuba and Russia as solid, friendly and with prospects of further developing and thanked the solidarity practiced by the latter to Cuba, particularly against the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade.

This is the first agreement we signed with a Latin American country, said Gryzlov, after which he highlighted the role of the Parliament in the promotion and development of economic ties of his nation.

He also addressed the constructive steps taken in conjunction with the ANPP and said he was satisfied that he had the chance of exchanging with Ricardo Cabrisas, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and head of the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission.

We were able to talk to Cabrisas on the future of trade and economic relations, which we consider very positive, he said.

Prior to the signing of the agreement during talks with Alarcon, the visiting parliamentary leader suggested that the Intergovernmental Committee shall hold its official meeting between the months of March and April next year in Havana.

Gryzlov and his accompanying delegation are in Havana following an official invitation from Alarcon.
