Venezuelan President Reiterates Rejection of US Blockade against Cuba Havana, Cuba.- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez reiterated on Friday in Russia his support for Cuba and condemned the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US on the Caribbean island for almost half a century now.

Chavez, on an official visit to Moscow, referred to the Cuban resolution that will be presented and put to the vote on October 26 at the United Nations to demand once more the end of the criminal siege, Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The Venezuelan president pointed out that his country will continue opposing the political measure established by Washington, a Bolivarian stance that will be maintained with passion, in defense of the island and of peoples’ sovereignty.

The head of state underlined that to defend Cuba is to defend human homeland, adding that his country will always be alongside the Caribbean island.

The unfair US blockade has been condemned by the UN since 1991, so much so that in 2009 the resolution presented by the island on the issue was backed by 187 nations. Only three voted against it, and two abstained.
