Bolivian President Evo Morales said on Friday that the changes from 2006 to date have been possible with the people's support.

At a mass meeting in Capinota, Morales said that the history of these changes began in May 2006 with the nationalization of hydrocarbons.

He also praised that the policy of defending national interests and promoting respect for sovereignty is well viewed by the international community.

The head of state, who returned from Buenos Aires to attend a meeting of UNASUR in support of the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, said that Bolivia never had a budget surplus until 2006.

What could be made from that date was based on an austere economic program and a transparent management of the state resources, he said.

He said that an example is the rise of the Net International Reserves from U.S. $ 1, 700 million in 2005 to just over 9 billion.

Morales also noted the increase in public investments for development programs, from U.S. $ 600 million over four years to 2, 300 million this year.

Morales also praised the programs to fight corruption.
