Film “Habana Eva”, directed by awarded Venezuelan filmmaker Fina Torres and co-produced by the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), began its commercial premiere in about seven Venezuelan cities on July 30.

The film tells the story of Eva (Prakriti Maduro) a young Havanan seamstress who dreams about designing clothes and who one day finds herself among two loves, Angel (Carlos Enrique Almirante), her boyfriend of the entire life and Jorge (Juan Carlos Garcia), son of Cuban parents who is visiting the island.

Cuban actor Carlos Enrique Almirante mentioned: “To form part of this film has been a true blessing for us as Cubans”; as Juan Carlos Garcia said he felt excited for making his first film with Venezuelan filmmaker Fina Torres and for the fact of having made it in Cuba.

Finally, Cuban actress Yuliet Cruz invited the Venezuelan people to see the film because “it was made with a lot of love”.

This film is the fourth feature film by Fina Torres, who reached celebrity after winning the “Camara de Oro” (Golden Camera) at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival for “Oriana”, a French-Venezuelan co-production on a married woman who returns to her native Venezuela from France and meets up with adolescence mysteries.

After having worked as a photographer, Torres went to Venezuela at the age of 21 in 1972. She travelled to France, studied at the Institute of Higher Film Studies (IDHEC) and performed several tasks in cinema too. She lives in Los Angeles today.
