Alvarez Cambras, who is also the President of the Cuban Society of Orthopaedics, highlighted this novel technique, with specialized sets of instruments for minimum access surgery on injuries, bunions, flat feet, and other ailments. It will also be used in other institutions from around the country, after the training of the human resources necessary for the task.
Sponsored by the French company FH Orthopaedics, with which Cuba has signed accords in this field, the course also includes the implementation of a new synthetic ligament -first introduced at the Frank País Complex- called TLS, also of French origin, which, among others, offers the advantage of covering both the front and rear ligaments when necessary.
Dr. Cambras also said that another novel surgical procedure, this time for slipped discs, will also be implemented, with the use of synthetic and metal discs made of titanium and hydroxiopatite and polyethylene, which will replace the spine disc used to be extracted and will prevent unsteadiness caused as the after-effect of operations of this kind.
The renowned Cuban surgeon and professor explained that seven courses with live operations –including the present course- have been given so far this year at the Frank País, where the Ibero-American School of Orthopaedics is located.
