Cuban Great Master Leinier Domínguez lost with GM Magnus Carlsen in the Sofia Master Chess Tournament
Cuban Great Master Leinier Domínguez lost his unbeaten record in the Sofia Master Chess Tournament, when he lost to Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen, now ranking third in the world. Carlsen (2,770 ELO) displayed his mastery over Dominguez (2,721 ELO) winning the match with the white pieces in 43 moves of a Grunfeld Defense, a Russian variation.

Carlsen is now at the top of the Category 21 chess tournament, together with Alexei Shirov, who now represents Spain.

Shirov tied with Veselin Topalov (GM, Bulgaria), who now ranks number one in the world.

The other important match, between Chinese Yue Wang and Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk also was tied.

With three days before the end of the tournament Carlsen and Shirov lead it with 4.5 points, Topalov has 4, Yue Wang has 3.5, Dominguez has 3, and Ivanchuk last on the list, with 1.5 points.
