Puerto Rican singer and composer Daniel Santos to be remembered in Cubadisco 2009
Together with Rafael Hernández (1892-1965), a top figure of popular music in that country, Santos reached so much fame and popularity in our country that many still consider him a truly Cuban singer.

Cubadisco, considered to be the most important forum of music industry in our country, will dedicate this thirteenth edition to Puerto Rican music, the cradle of important musicians and rythms such as bomba and plena , among others.

Santons was born in Santurse, in a very humble family, and he began his professional career as a vocalist in the Trío Lírico until 1933, when he joins the Flores quartet, with whom he recorded many of the songs that

would make him famous. Among the most popular songs that are remembered in the radio broadcasting companies of our county stand out Tú serás mía, Irresistible, Perdón, Mayoral, Venganza, Amor, Yo no sé nada and Hay que saber perder.

He made his debut in Cuba in 1946 through Bobby Capó in the program Bodas de Plata Partagás , which he always began with the song Anacobero (Little devil in ñañigo language). For this reason he was called El Inquieto Anacobero (The restless Anacobero ).

For fifteen years he travelled between Cuba and New York and he composed more than 400 songs, among them, El columpio de la vida, Patricia, Amnistía, El preso, Bello mar, El que canta and many more.

He was famous in Radio Progreso broadcasting company together with the Sonora Matancera, with whom he interpreted huge successes by Pablo Cairo, Jesús Guerra and Isolina Carrillo, of whom he made famous the song Dos Gardenias , one of the most famous love texts of the Cuban pentagram.

Cubadisco 2009 will also remember Puerto Rican figures such as Catalina Curet Alonso (1926-2003), Pedro Flores (1894-1979), Félix Manuel Rodríguez Capó (1922-1989), Ismael "Maelo" Rivera (1931-1987) and Myrta Silva (1927-1987), the first woman to ever be a percussion expert.
