La Casa de las Americas, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions here, has two works nominated for the Special Award of Cubadisco 2009, starting May 16 through 24.

Among the six special awards are the compact disc "Coleccion Palabra de esta America," a compilation of writers including Mario Benedetti, Julio Cortazar, Gonzalo Rojas, Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral.

The disc "Coleccion Musica de esta America," includes the most representative works by Victor Jara and Mercedes Sosa, with songs like "Companero Presidente," "Canciones de Violeta Parra," "Hasta la victoria siempre," and "Che querido," among others.

Also on the list are the CDs "Entre locos bajitos," by Liuba Maria Hevia, recorded by the Cuban Bis Music record company, "Coleccion 30 años de musica," with works

by Jose Maria Vitier, from Producciones Colibri record label , and "Coleccion Fernanda," also from Bis Music. "La rumba de Matanzas en la Habana," a compilation by Jorge Rodriguez from the island's oldest recording company, EGREM, is also on the agenda.

The awarding ceremony will take place May 16 at the Havana Karl Marx Theater and the opening gala will be May 17 at the Amadeo Roldan Auditorium Theater, with the performance of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and other artists.
