The meeting has been occurring since 2005. The program will be presided over by the renowned specialist, Professor Eduard Buess, from Switzerland, who will guide local orthopaedists in demonstrative surgeries, conduct the debates of surgical cases, and give master conferences.
When offering information, Professor Antonio Raunel Hernández, specialist of second degree and Head of the service of Orthopedics and Trauma Studies of the local hospital, expressed that employing surgery of minimum access is the basic objective of the present and future work.
Avilanian Specialists have already operated on almost a hundred of shoulder cases, they have done more than 200 knee surgeries, and they have undertaken many foot and hand operations.
The orthopaedists in Ciego de Ávila exhibited innovative scientific development with the incorporation and mastering of new surgical techniques and they represent the vanguard in Cuba in terms of the minimum access and ambulatory surgeries, with increasing benefits for the quick recovery of the patients and the reduction of expenses of the hospital budget.
"Our service, which has been founded in 1984, demonstrates the condition of the moral collective since 1999 and strives to become an excellent service after all the constructive transformations of our hospital.
"It is necessary to look for the best techniques so that the patient suffers the least damage, with the minimum possible complications and recovers quickly and well", Doctor Antonio Raunel Hernández concluded.
