Fidel Castro Meets with Dominican Republics President
The Dominican leader, who is on his third official visit to Cuba as head of state, told the press it was an honour and a privilege for him to have talked with Fidel, who showed an interest, among other topics, in the international financial crises.

Fernandez said they also talked about the problems in Latin America and in particular the Dominican Republic. He told Fidel about his government's interest in signing agreements with Cuba in the agricultural and educational sectors, and expressed a particular interest in the Cuban "Yo Si Puedo" teaching method, which has been widely used to teach illiterate people how to read and write in a short
period of time.

According to the Dominican president, they also talked about the possibility of developing exchange programs with the Cuban Art and Film Industry Institute and with that of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

Leonel Fernandez Reyna arrived in Havana on Monday, where he will fulfil a tight program of activities that include a meeting with Cuban president Raul Castro.

He will also visit the province of Santiago de Cuba, located in eastern Cuba, known as Ciudad Heroe (Hero City).
