One of the short films in competition is Mexican Carlos Armella's "Tierra y Pan" (Land and Bread), winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Also Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles will compete with "Blidness", based on a Jose Saramago's story and starring Mexican actor Gael Garcia.
The guests of honors are French director Nicolas Philibert and British musician Michael Nyman, who has worked with directors like Peter Greenway.
