Cuban Sports Official was elected as Vice President of the International Cycling Union
Pelaez, who is also the President of the Pan American Cycling Confederation, will assume the post simultaneously with Portuguese Artur Lopes replacing Australian Ray Godkin and Dutch Hein Verbruggen, who headed the UCI since 1991 until the election of Irish Pat MacQuaid in 2005.

MacQuaid remains ahead of the International Cycling Union, supported by three VPs: Pelaez, Lopes and Czech Vladimir Holecek.

During the congress in Varese, the UCI Executive Committee chose the Swiss city of Champery as the host city of the 2001 World Championships in the categories of Mountain Bike and Trial. In addition, Italy’s Montebelluna will host the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championship also in 2011 while Krasnaya Pakhra, in Russia, will receive the BMX World Championship the same year.
