Schola Cantorum Coralina at the 8th World Symposium on Choral Music
The event´s main venue is the new Opera House in Copenhagen , where the morning activities, including concerts, take place. The evening concerts are being held at the world-famous Tivoli Concert Hall and at a number of beautiful old churches, museums and other concert rooms.

The list of invited choirs includes 3 choirs from Latin- and South America, 3 from Africa, 5 from the Asian / Pacific region, 3 from North America, and 3 from Europe outside the Nordic region. For the first time ever, each Nordic country is represented by choirs.

The World Symposium is the world´s most important choral event. Held every three years, the Symposium features prominent choral specialists and choirs from throughout the world in workshops, repertoire reading sessions, demonstrations and concerts. Invited delegates include conductors, scholars, singers, students and music industry representatives from around the globe.

Organized by the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), it serves as a unique opportunity for choir people from all parts of the world to meet, learn and show what is going on in the field of choral music.

Past Symposiums have been held in Vienna (1987), Stockholm , Helsinki and Tallinn (1990), Vancouver (1993), Sydney (1996), Rotterdam (1999), Minneapolis (2002) and Kyoto (2005).

Cuba ´s Coralina participated in the second half of the event, offering concerts on July 23rd, 24th and 25th.

This time, the organizers have planed to offer participants the finest music of the Nordic region, including the world premiere of choral works by 12 renowned Nordic composers. Coralina will perform one of them, by US-Danish composer Butch Lazy.

Delegates are studying a wide range of choral topics in interesting workshops, master classes and conferences on issues of common interest such as: Improvisation and Choral Music; Vocal Rhythmic Music: Three Different Approaches; Body Percussion and the Voice; Traditional Choral Music of Burundi; and Interpreting the African-American Spiritual with Integrity.

Cuba is also represented at the World Choral Expo by the Canadian-Cuban Sports & Cultural Festivals organization, which, among other products, is offering a new multimedia –a joint work by Coralina and the Canadian-Cuban mixed company.

Sports & Cultural Festivals has a 15-year experience in promoting and organizing visits to the island of choral, dance and sports groups from around the world, thus facilitating exchange with their Cuban counterparts.
