Ernan Lopez Nusa in Santo Domingo
Who better to start than the great Cuban pianist Ernan Lopez Nussa? Lopez Nussa is an artist whose fusions between the Cuban and Brazilian music have travelled through prestigious stages all over the world.

Nice, bohemian and a second home for those who frequent it, Casa de Teatro is for its tradition of dynamic and friendly meetings between the musicians and the public, still the ideal place to enjoy the jazz rhythms. This way and as usual, the people dinning at Café Teatro were be able also to enjoy the show around a giant screen that broadcast the event life.

Rigorous formation.

Ernan Lopez-Nussa is from Havana and is part of the elite group of Cuban artists who have achieved international fame. His rigorous academic formation at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatoire and at the Higher Art Institute of Cuba, have allowed him to develop a great skill both in the popular and in the classic styles.

He has travelled all over the world taking with him his art to prestigious stages, such as Ronnie Scotts in London, New Morning in Paris, Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, Luna Park in Buenos Aires, the Fujiyama Jazz Festival in Japan and the Havana Jazz Plaza Festival among many others.

Rhythmic experimentation

Together with Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba he is considered one of the Cuban Jazz trilogy. He is the author of a wide musical repertoire for piano. Lopez Nussa started his career as arranger with Bobby Carcasses group and later on, in late 70´s was part of Afrocuba group.

That was a time of big jazz experimentation with the Cuban dance roots, as well as an opportunity for Lopez Nussa to become famous in the musical world.

Even though he was known mainly for his collaborations with Silvio Rodriguez in his records “Causas y azares” (1986) and “Oh melancolía” (1988), his vocation for experimentation has been with him his entire career.

Cuarto Espacio was another jazz idea in the beginning of the 90´s. His pieces show, according to Humberto Manduley, a contredance structure, a great melodic design and inspired passages for the piano that show a contagious rhythmic complexity.

Lopez Nussa music, with its Africa, Latino, Arab and Eastern influences, is a life expression of the diversity of art in contemporary world and especially of modern jazz. What an opportunity for our Jazz Festival!
