International Dance Prize for Cuban Maestro Fernando Alonso at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Russia.
The jury granted Alonso this award - considered the Oscar of Dance in the world - in recognition of his work in the creation of the Cuban National Ballet, the Academy of Ballet and the Cuban National School of Arts, as well as for his contribution and pedagogical work in several countries for over 50 years.

In 2000, Fernando Alonso won the National Dance Prize in Cuba.

Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, of the Royal Ballet Convent Garden of London, also received an award for his main role in 'Spartacus by Khachaturian Grigorovich.

Renowned Argentinean dancer Julio Bocca was the first to receive this distinction that is granted annually since 1992 by the International Dance Union with the sponsorship of UNESCO.
