Hemispheric Encounter against Free Trade Agreements Concludes on Friday at Havanas Convention Center
Almost half a thousand social activists and leaders have discussed the situation and consequences of the neo-liberal dominance imposed by FTAs.

Representatives from youth, student, women and jurist networks, among others, have also advocated the true integration of peoples.

Debates have focused on the current situation of FTAs with the United States and the European Union and also on the situation of the World Trade Organization and the stagnant multilateral negotiations in this organization.

Other topics discussed include current financial mechanisms of domination, foreign debt and the harmful influence of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Particular attention has been paid to the recently created Bank of the South and its importance for Latin American integration.

FTAs are considered as results of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), a failed US re-colonizing project to subjugate Latin America and the Caribbean.
