Lead in Semifinals of Cuban Baseball Play Offs: Santiago and Sancti Spiritus
Playing at the Jose Antonio Huelga stadium, Jimenez scattered seven hits to lead the host team to a 2-1 win over the visitors in an excellent pitchers duel with Vladimir Baños, who was outstanding in the loss as he yielded only five hits in seven-plus innings.

Pinar led the game 1-0 until the seventh frame when the local squad scored their two runs on a controversial decision by chief umpire Luis Felipe Casañas on a play that should have ended another scoreless inning for the home club.

With two outs and the bases loaded, reliever Yunieski Maya struck out pinch-hitter Jose Luis Saez but the ball hit the batter. Then, Casañas, instead of calling the batter out as established by the rules, called him struck out and wild pitch, thus allowing the first local run which triggered an angry protest by the visitors. Then, Maya walked the following batter for the final 2-1 score.

These teams will now travel to Pinar del Rio where they will continue this best-of-seven semifinal series on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Division, Villa Clara hosts defending Santiago de Cuba on Monday at the Augusto Cesar Sandino stadium after suffering two losses in their first two outings on Friday and Saturday.
