The hands of Cuban's orchestra's directress Zenaida Castro Romeu are restless
"Guido Lopez Gavilan with "Musica Eterna", Digna Guerra and the choir "Entrevoces", as well as musical groups from Holguin and other provinces like Santiago de Cuba, were among the participants in the cultural event.

We noted a special interest in culture given that people attended the concerts despite the rain or heat. "

With over seven discs and the nomination for the recent Non Divisi for the Cubadisco 2008 in the category of chamber music and recording in situ, the chamber orchestra "Camerata Romeu", is located in Cuban music as one of the strongest groups at present since its formation in 1993 with the help of Pablo Milanes.

It is the first time they have come to Holguin. During his last concert in "La Periquera" and despite the rain people attended the concert attracted by the music or even by their fame due to the quality of interpreting the best of Cuban music and international selections. Their repertoire is moving with equal ease between the danzón and the tango, the rumba and contradanza.

How did you select the members of the Camerata?

"All of them are from Cuba. At the beginning of the 90's, I was teaching in Spain and I realized that there was not a large representation of women in artistic life. I thought it was very good to show our reality in which women study music, despite the Spaniards calling us "third world", or pejoratively, "Latin Americans." But we have things that they do not have. By forming the orchestra, I proved that we had more development in some branches of knowledge than they. "

How do to memorize the works of the repertoire?

"According to many scholars, we are a unique orchestra in the world for that feature."

I have seen you being kind with the musicians during the concerts, but I also have noticed a great respect for you from them. Do you consider yourself a difficult director?

"I can be and I can not. It depends on the circumstances. An orchestra is like an army. Sometimes when the general has to say this is the case and that's it. Even though, I consider myself a democratic conductor. I like to highlight the talents of them, not hide them. They are girls with potential.

There are may be many people with criteria, but thats my own style. Music decides. "

Where does the general carry out the strength, in the head or in the hand?

"In the head... in the soul, in the heart, in all the body's cells."

During the closing concert and despite the varied repertoire they had prepared, Camerata Romeu repeated the well known Camerata in guaguancó, by Guido Lopez Gavilan.
