Moa in Holguín, Cuba to Set up the Biggest Power Generating Unit
A new power generating unit will be built in the eastern region of Punta Gorda in Moa, Holguin, to support ferronickel production, a new item in the Cuban Nickel Industry.

The site will be located in an area of the former Las Camariocas plant, now converted into the Yamanigüey project planned to produce a material with 70 percent of iron and 30 nickel widely used in steel.

Hector Lugo, director of the Generation Distribution Utility of Holguin, explained that the generating unit will consist of 20 engines that each generate 8.73 MegaWatts.

He stressed that although the machines designed for the generating units of fuel oil from El Mariel, in Havana are bigger, the power of Punta Gorda units in Moa will be higher.

Lugo also said that the investment now passes through the initial phase of research, engineering and projects and that the Building Company of MICONS is working on the preparation of the technical conditions to undertake the work.
