Professor Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart will visit South Africa from 31 March to 5 April, to hold talks with Science and Technology Minister Mosibudi Mangena and the heads of science institutions in the country.
Biotechnology, nanotechnology, nuclear and energy technology as well as climate change will be topics for discussion.
Diaz-Balart, a nuclear physicist and the scientific advisor to the State Council of Cuba, will present a lecture on nuclear technology in Pretoria on 31 March.
He is also scheduled to meet former president Nelson Mandela.
Relations in the field of science between the two countries began in 2001 when they signed an agreement on scientific and technological co-operation with a focus on biotechnology.
