New Construction Begins on Gibara II Wind Farm in Holguin, Cuba.
The new location, fourth in the island, will have the capacity of 4.5 MegaWatts per hour maximum generation through the contributions of six Goldwind machines with Chinese technology.

The generating units will be supported on 50 meter high towers, slightly lower than those used in Gibara I recently connected to the Electricity National Grid.

Hector Lugo, head of Distributed Generation of the Electricity Service in Holguin , reported that the Gibara II should come into service during the current year.

The Gibara I, with Gamesa Spanish technology and six 850 kW machines, delivered over 980 MegaWatts in its first month of operation, equivalent to about 220 tons of fuel oil savings.

Studies carried out in the country on the use of wind for electricity confirm the existence of more than 30 areas with strong wind potential, of which eight are located in the eastern region.
