According to Prensa Latina news agency, the group of local legislators from different parties was headed by the President of the Chamber of Representatives, Sommath Chattarjee, who visited Cuba last January to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations and, particularly, with the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament).

Barun Mukherjee, a senator of the Advanced Bloc, said he was very impressed by the state of public health in Cuba and, specially, by the Havana-based Latin American School of Medicine where youths from low-income families in Latin America, the Caribbean and even the United States are trained to become physicians.

Dr. Mukherjee noted that the Cuban people have been able to accomplish these achievements in spite of the US financial, commercial and economic blockade, which he described as an unjust and savage policy.
