Books of Texts by President Fidel Castro and New Volumes of the Complete Works of Martí at the 2008 International Book Fair
New volumes of the critical edition of the complete works of José Martí and two books of texts by President Fidel Castro are some of the new books that will be available to the public during the 19th International Book Fair in Cuba, which will be held at 42 different sites around the country from February 13 to March 9.

One of the highlights of the Havana stage of the fair is the launching of Volumes 10-16 of Obras Completas de José Martí (Complete Works of José Martí), under the direction of a team headed by Dr. Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, of the Center for the Study of José Martí. The launch will be on February 14 at noon, in Fernando Ortiz Hall at the La Cabaña Fortress, the fairs venue in the capital.

Pueblo y democracia (People and Democracy), a thematic selection of writings by Fidel compiled by researchers at the Institute of Cuban History, and Fidel Castro y la historia como ciencia (Fidel Castro and History as Science), prepared by Dolores Guerra, Margarita Concepción, Ivette García and Amparo Hernández (from the Editora Politica publishing house and the Center for the Study of José Martí), are two new titles featured.

Readers will also be able to obtain the new edition of Martís Obras escogidas (Selected Works) and Los Diarios de campaña (Campaign Diaries), as well as titles about him, such as Martí en España. España en Martí (Martí in Spain. Spain in Martí), by Ibrahim Hidalgo Paz; and Martí jurista (Martí the Jurist), by Vitorio Di Cagno (Center for the Study of José Martí and Ciencias Sociales publishing house).

The book fair will be an opportunity to draw a balance on the current state of studies on the ideas of the man who inspired the historical attack on the Moncada Garrison. That will be the theme of a panel discussion on February 14, in the Fernando Ortiz Room, at 10 a.m. featuring Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, Ibrahim Hidalgo, Carmen Suárez and Ana Sánchez Collazo.
