Ciego de Ávila Among the County Most Productive in Cuba
Although the volumes are still below the demand, they represent 55 percent of roots and vegetables and 70 percent of milk, out of the total storing of both in the territory, besides grains and fruits.

Yoel Palmero Meneses, member of the provincial secretariat of the National Association of Small Farmers, pointed out that the annual plan of cow milk delivery surpassed its due fulfillment.

He also expressed that almost 70 percent of the production of that food was the responsibility of peasants, who produced more than 100 000 litres on top of their commitment.

This overproduction took place at the request of Vice President Raúl Castro, given the need to diminish the purchase of powder milk because of its high price on the international market.

Besides surpassing the annual goals for the sale of pigs to the State, the associated peasants are coming closer to commercialize 5 900 tons of pork, thanks to the agreements made with the Agriculture sector authorities and the interest of pig raisers.
