The former French first lady and a fighter for the human rights, Danielle Mitterrand, is among the 350 personalities from 35 countries that will participate at the Second International Conference for the Equilibrium of the World to be held from the 28th up to the 30th of January in Havana.

The coordinator of the event, Gustavo Robreño, announced in a press conference that apart from Miterrand among the special guests are the Ecuadorean writer Jorge Enrique Adoum, the Venezuelan film maker Edmundo Aray and the Mexican sociologist Pablo González Casanova.

Together with them will also be the Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, the Argentinean writer Atilio Borón, the French professor Jean Lamore and the Italian lawyer Luigi Lombardi.

The event, to be held at the Convention Palace, will pay tribute to the Cuban Independent Hero Jose Marti in the 155 anniversary of his birth.

Armando Hart, director of the Office of the Martí Program, affirmed that the main objective is to create a conscience in the society about the danger on the human specie.

If we dont take the urgent measures we can perish in the XXI century, he indicated and called to seriously meditate about the violence the world is facing.

In the opening of the event will be Pierre Sané, General Deputy director of UNESCO, José Miguel Insulza, general secretary of the Organization of American States (OEA; after its initials in Spanish) and Roberto Fernández Retamar, president of the Casa de las Américas.

There will be three commissions, one of them dedicated to he social and political dimension of José Martí, another one to the nature and the man and the third one to the unbalances in the world and its repercussions.

At the same time, will be held a young forum under the title El hombre nuevo para el mundo Nuevo (A new man for a new world) and a workshop about the intellectual heritage of the great heroes and thinkers of the Americas, such as Simón Bolívar, Benito Juárez and Augusto César Sandino. The first International Conference for the Equilibrium of the world was held in 2003.

On that occasion it was asked to UNESCO to create a World Council to spread the ideas of Martí. The project was approved and groups 48 prestigious figures, such as the Uruguayan Mario Benedetti and the Colombian Gabriel García Márquez.
