Cuba has undertaken an investment program for the installing of four factories with Italian technology which will produce 60,000 tons of long pasta a year.

The plants are located in the central-south province of Cienfuegos, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, in the central-eastern province of Camaguey and in San Jose de las Lajas, 15.5 miles southeast of Havana.

In statements to the press, General Director of the Cienfuegos plant, Fernando Sarria, referred to the modernity of the Italian equipment, which can produce 42 tons of long pasta in four varieties every 24 hours of work.

Sarria noted that the production is aimed at fulfilling the people's family shopping basket, which is subsidized and distributed by the Cuban state.
